Frequent Questions relating to Anthroposophic Medicine Doesn't cover your questions? do send us by using Contact Us form.

Q: Are anthroposophic doctors fully trained and qualified doctors?

Anthroposophic doctors hold the same training and qualifications as other doctors, for example, an anthroposophic GP will have had the same training as other GPs, and then they have undertaken additional training (usually over at least 3 years) to gain their qualification as an anthroposophic physician.

Q: Does anthroposophic medicine work? Is there any evidence for Anthroposophic medicines?

Anthroposophic medical diagnosis and treatment follow different paradigms to western medicine, so the same evidence-based medicine approaches are not directly applicable. There are, however, a large number of scientific studies demonstrating the safety, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of Anthroposophic Medicine in practice.

Q: Can Anthroposophic medicines be used to treat cancer?

Anthroposophic medicines do not replace conventional cancer treatment. Anthroposophic medicine is an individualised and holistic medical approach that can be used to support individuals with a very wide range of conditions, including cancer. Integrative oncology is the term used for this nowadays and Anthroposophic Medicine has been at the forefront of integrative oncology for many years.

Q: Is anthroposophic medicine a school of Homeopathy?

Anthroposophic Medicine is not a form of homeopathy. Anthroposophic medical principles differ significantly to those of traditional homeopathic medicine. Although some homeopathic medicines may be used by anthroposophic physicians and some Anthroposophic Medicines contain homeopathic ingredients, the system of Anthroposophic Medicine extends far beyond this and includes the use of herbal and other natural substances, as well as working with specific nursing approaches, inner development and numerous therapies specific to Anthroposophic Medicine.

Q: What can I do when I have a fever?

Please see the Warm Up To Fever website or watch the video below. This information is not a substitute for appropriate medical advice if you think you may be seriously unwell.

Q: Can Anthroposophic Medicine help people with neurological conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Disorders, ADHD and learning disabilities?

Anthroposophic Medicine, through its links with education for disabilities has gained considerable experience in supporting neurodiversity in individuals to harness their individual strengths and work through their challenges, with a combination of educational, medical and therapeutic approaches. There is at least one published research study demonstrating positive outcomes in children with ADHD. Through links with Waldorf schools and social care institutions, many anthroposophic physicians in the UK have a wealth of experience in this area.

Q: What is the relationship between Anthroposophic Medicine and organic food? Does organic food keep me healthy?

A healthy lifestyle is a key component of the salutogenic medicine approach of the Anthroposophic Physician, who will often recommend following a diet based on organic or biodynamic to minimise the potential health hazards of highly processed foods and pesticides and give the body optimal conditions for health.

Q: What is your advice on childhood immunisations?

The international association of Anthroposophic Medical Associations (the IVAA) has issued a statement on our behalf on the position of anthroposophic medicine regarding vaccination.
