International Further Training for School and Kindergarten Doctors

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you very warmly to this year's conference for school and kindergarten doctors. The central topics are the development of and search for identity in children and adolescents. This also includes the controversies and views on gender, on the diagnosis and therapy of autism spectrum disorders, as well as the child conference as an important means to recognise a child in their uniqueness and to support them in the best possible way. We also want to include in the topic of the third seven-year period the ritual Sunday service for upper school pupils requested from Rudolf Steiner by pupils 100 years ago.

It is a long way from the small child, who still speaks of themselves in the third person, to the adolescent, who develops a conscious concept of themselves as a multi-layered personality. Who are you? The questions of identity formation are so complex that we often still falter as adults when we are asked to answer the question in full.

An infant sometimes looks at their own hands with such wonder and intensity that it seems they do not yet identify with them at all. Much of what they observe is sought out repeatedly, if possible, and turned this way and that, so that we might read from this the question: "Can I really trust my senses?"

The young schoolchild identifies completely with the beloved teacher and with the world that is conveyed to them through the other person - "...trustingly to seek only myself, in cosmic light and cosmic warmth" (Rudolf Steiner, Calendar of the Soul at St. John's Tide).

And who am I really? Identity crisis and adolescence truly belong together. From the search for gender identity to cultural or political identity, many adolescents today find themselves faced with a great deal of freedom, which can also become an excessive burden. The insecurity is tangibly high today. Some would rather choose an avatar than engage in the search for their real earthly identity.

How can we support children and adolescents to become self-confident personalities with the capacity to act and be free?

In anticipation of an exciting and enriching conference, we send our warmest regards on behalf of the preparatory group,

Michaela Glöckler, Johannes Kux, Ulrike Lorenz, Claudia McKeen, Karin Michael, Bettina Pump,
