The Courage to Heal

  • Friday, February 20, 2026

  • The Goetheanum

‘I am for striding forwards.’ (Ita Wegman)

Dear colleagues, dear friends,

the conference marking Ita Wegman's 150th birthday on 22 February 2026 will honour her extensive life's work in the field of the anthroposophical art of healing and supportive education, her service to countless people in need, her alert historical judgement and achievements in resistance, but also her social commitment to an Anthroposophical Society open to and connected with the world as well as to the Goetheanum as a School of Spiritual Science with a cosmopolitan orientation.

The conference, which is being jointly organised by the General Anthroposophical Section, the Medical Section and the Section for Inclusive Social Development, will focus on the question of the FUTURE. ‘Resignation was a concept alien to Ita Wegman,’ emphasised Madeleine van Deventer. ‘Hopeless – that word did not exist for her.’ Emanuel Zeylmans van Emmichoven spoke of Ita Wegman as an inspirational genius of anthroposophy, and he was convinced that the inner connection to her, the intentions and motives behind her work, would carry the anthroposophical movement and the Goetheanum forward into a healing, Michaelic future in a world under threat.

Best regards

Peter Selg on behalf of the preparatory group,

Adam Blanning, Marion Debus and Karin Michael

For the second activity we need your direct help. For, in addition to the conference at the Goetheanum we need helpful hands in all parts of the world. We invite you to offer a therapeutic event in your community in honor of Ita Wegman. We hope that you – perhaps with colleagues in your area – will provide a healing experience for others, especially those who might not otherwise have access to these kinds of treatments. And we encourage you to offer it as a free gift to others (without charge).

This could be a workshop on biography, hands-on treatments, whatever you can offer. This is a free choice, depending on your work, your inspiration, and your possibilities!

Please let us know what you are planning. We will be gathering information about the activities that can take place on or around 22 February 2026, at this survey.

We will then share information about the collected activities, hopefully also illustrated with reports, photos, or videos (we will reach out to you again after the event to learn more about what happened) and include it as a special presentation at the 2026 International Annual Conference as well as on our website.

We look forward to hearing about your ideas!

With warm regards, Adam Blanning
