As an extension of western medicine, Anthroposophic Medicine is a  holistic, integrative, and salutogenic medical approach established over 100 years ago. It takes the view of ‘’a whole human being’’ and gives equal importance to the structure and composition of the physical body, its vitality and rhythms, the soul/emotional life of the patient, and the individuality/spirituality of the person.

A range of professionals work as a team  to support patients working towards balanced health: anthroposophic doctors prescribing both conventional and anthroposophic medicinal products supported by nurses and pharmacies; and therapists supporting individuals through artistic activities, body movement, counselling, and psychotherapy work.

The aim of equal opportunity in education and social therapy is to give children, young people and adults with a disability the opportunity for individual development, to help them to live with dignity and self-determination, to promote their integration into the community and society, and to ensure their contribution to society is visible.

Anthroposophic medications can be administered orally, via injection, as suppositories, via inhalation, and externally in the form of compresses, gentle rhythmic oil applications, and baths. Talks with the doctor, medications, nursing and external applications may be augmented according to need by artistic therapies, psychotherapy, rhythmical massage therapy and other treatments. Meditation and mindfulness exercises have been an important part of Anthroposophic Medicine from the beginning.

European Co-Operation in Anthroposophical Curative Education and Social Therapy gives an overview of its mission:

ECCE takes the view that people with disabilities

have the right to live an individually chosen lifestyle in an assisted surrounding which enables and supports personal development and communication, have the right to living conditions, education and therapy suited to their individual potential, have the right to participate in a decent way of life in the society suited to their individual potential.

All concepts of assisting people with all kinds of needs must be examined to see whether they guarantee the quality of life of these people. In education for equal opportunities and social therapy, it is recognised that education, working or living with these persons is of benefit to all individuals involved and to society as a whole.

In the UK, there are residential schools, further education colleges, day places and residential communities such as Camphill CommunitiesRuskin Mill Trust and independent settings.
