ARE ANTHROPOSOPHIC DOCTORS FULLY TRAINED AND QUALIFIED DOCTORS? 

Anthroposophic doctors hold the same training and qualifications as other doctors, for example, an anthroposophic GP will have had the same training as other GPs, and then they have undertaken additional training (usually over at least 3 years) to gain their qualification as an anthroposophic physician. More information about  Anthroposophic Medicine Education and Training in the UK.


DOES ANTHROPOSOPHIC MEDICINE WORK? IS THERE ANY EVIDENCE FOR ANTHROPOSOPHIC MEDICINES?

Anthroposophic medical diagnosis and treatment follow different paradigms to western medicine, so the same evidence-based medicine approaches are not directly applicable. There are, however, a large number of scientific studies demonstrating the safety, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of Anthroposophic Medicine in practice.


CAN ANTHROPOSOPHIC MEDICINES BE USED TO TREAT CANCER?

Anthroposophic Medicines do not replace conventional cancer treatment. Anthroposophic medicine is an individualised and holistic medical approach that can be used to support individuals with a very wide range of conditions, including cancer. Integrative oncology is the term used for this nowadays and Anthroposophic Medicine has been at the forefront of integrative oncology for many years. 


CAN ANTHROPOSOPHIC MEDICINE HELP PEOPLE WITH NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS SUCH AS AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDERS, ADHD AND LEARNING DISABILITIES?

Anthroposophic Medicine, through its links with education for disabilities has gained considerable experience in supporting neurodiversity in individuals to harness their individual strengths and work through their challenges, with a combination of educational, medical and therapeutic approaches. There is at least one published research study demonstrating positive outcomes in children with ADHD. Through links with Waldorf schools and social care institutions, many anthroposophic physicians in the UK have a wealth of experience in this area.


WHERE CAN I OBTAIN ANTHROPOSOPHIC MEDICINES?

UK citizens have a variety of options for obtaining Anthroposophic Medicines. Anthroposophic Medicines should be prescribed or recommended by an Anthroposophic Physician in the first instance.

  • Buy from a UK-based Pharmacy: In the UK, pharmacies can sell Weleda and Wala medicines over the counter if the medicine does not require a prescription. Try Peterculter Pharmacy (Aberdeen) or Buxton & Grant (Bristol); others are listed by PAFAM.
  • Prescription Only Medicines: many medicines require a prescription for supply via a UK pharmacy, but pharmacies in Germany can sell many of these medicines without a prescription.
    WHERE CAN I OBTAIN MISTLETOE?

    Mistletoe therapy should always be administered by an Anthroposophic Physician with training and expertise in Mistletoe Therapy.

    For patients who have been given appropriate guidance, there are 2 ways to obtain mistletoe. 

    With a prescription: if your medicine is prescribed, your physician will be able to advise you as to where you can source the medicine.

    Anthroposophic Medicine is not a form of homeopathy. Anthroposophic medical principles differ significantly to those of traditional homeopathic medicine. Although some homeopathic medicines may be used by anthroposophic physicians and some Anthroposophic Medicines contain homeopathic ingredients, the system of Anthroposophic Medicine extends far beyond this and includes the use of herbal and other natural substances, as well as working with specific nursing approaches, inner development and numerous therapies specific to Anthroposophic Medicine.
