From the Eurythmy Therapy Training in Great Britain

'... prepares eurythmists to work in all fields of eurythmy therapy with an international diploma from the Medical Section of the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. This Diploma and MA qualify the eurythmy therapist to join professional organisations in their own country and to work in the profession in a range of healthcare settings. The definition of eurythmy therapy and the guidelines and professional profile can be viewed for more details.

We aim to give students a foundation in professional skills and enable them to develop capacities of observation, reflection, imagination and therapeutic intuition. An emphasis is placed on experiential learning, linking theme-based lectures with practical sessions, and alternating blocks of taught modules with practice placements.

As trainers we work in a collaborative spirit with each other and with the students, fostering a diversity of approach and encouraging personal development and mutual support.'

    International Anthroposophic Physician Certification

STARTED 28th January 2023. Application still open for late comer, please do get in touch with the organiser.

Many patients as well as physicians are in search of an integrative approach to medicine that embraces the whole person, in their mental and spiritual being as well as in bodily aspects. To this end, anthroposophic medicine was founded in 1920 by Dr. Rudolf Steiner and Dr. med. Ita Wegman.

Today this School of Medicine is alive in practices, therapeutic centres and anthroposophic hospitals throughout the world. It is taught in international training courses and is researched* in university departments with associated professorial chairs.

    Course Overview

It explores new ways of understanding a patient’s condition that go beyond current purely physically based medicine, emphasising the patient’s spiritual, psychological and bodily capacities for resilience.

The training offers a deeper understanding of common medical conditions, offering participants experience-based learning processes that lead to an extended understanding of the human being, both in health and illness, and in their relationship to nature.

The treatments introduced include anthroposophic medicines and their pharmaceutical production. The course also provides a foundation for prescribing natural medicines and a range of non-medicinal therapies that have been shown in general practice to radically reduce the prescribing of antibiotics and other groups of conventional medicines, while improving patient satisfaction.

In addition, participants are also introduced to art therapy, eurythmy therapy, body therapies and nursing procedures through direct experience. These non medicial treatments can intensify therapeutic responses to illness. Biographical aspects and insights from psychotherapy and counselling are also considered in developing an understanding of disease processes.

Equally important is the ethical and spiritual development of the physician. Fundamental spiritual exercises and meditative practices that can aid such development, are introduced throughout the training.

    A three-year, part-time, post-graduate course in psychotherapy, psychopathology & psychosomatics

This course is based on the principle that the human being today has great potential based on the power of our eternal spirit.  Our spiritual self can withstand the most difficult life circumstances but that all manner of problems can prevent its healthy unfolding.

It provides an integrative, holistic training that addresses psychological and complex psychosomatic problems from an anthroposophic perspective.

This training is for practising and qualified psychological therapists and so applicants will already have embarked on the journey of unfolding both their own and their clients’ potential.

‘I have been fascinated to learn more about psychosomatic disorders, the relationship between them and one’s spirit. This insight will enable me to treat the whole person.’
‘A very serious commitment; it takes time and effort, but your life will be changed’
‘This course has come at a most potent time in my life and has had a profound impact not only on the way I work with clients, but also life in general’
‘This course was very relevant and timely for my needs and future aspirations’
‘Such a varied, talented, deeply professional research-based ways and attitude in teaching styles’

‘The course supports individual styles and provides places for growth – both in an individual and in a group context

The course is structured as a three-year course with an optional fourth year. The certificates will be awarded to graduates who have one of the following UK registrations or accreditations: registration with the UKCP as a psychotherapist, the HCPC as a clinical psychologist or counselling psychologist, the BMC as a doctor or accredited with the BACP as a counsellor/psychotherapist. The award is made by the Medical Section of the School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum and will reflect the national registration or accreditation of the course participant.

Course participants who complete four years will be able to apply for UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) psychotherapy registration since the course meets the training requirements of UKCP registration. The course will include written work at university postgraduate level for approval by a university organisational member of the UKCP. This will involve an optional extra add-on fourth year course over a period of twelve months. As well as meeting the training requirements the course will also assist students to prepare a portfolio of evidence to meet the UKCP humanistic and integrative section criteria involving a compilation of client hours, supervision, and personal therapy.

The three-year certificate will state that the course participant has trained on a post graduate course in anthroposophic based psychotherapy, psychopathology and psychosomatics based on the anthroposophic understanding of the human being and is knowledgeable in anthroposophic psychotherapy.

The four-year certificate will state that the course participant has trained on a post graduate course in anthroposophic based psychotherapy, psychopathology and psychosomatics based on the anthroposophic understanding of the human being and is qualified in anthroposophic psychotherapy.

Graduates will also become members of the UK psychotherapy association (Mercury, the association of counsellors and psychotherapists working out of Anthroposophy). Mercury is a member of the International Federation of Anthroposophic Psychotherapy Associations (IFAPA) and so graduates will also be able to join the international community of anthroposophic psychotherapists and attend all IFAPA events.

    TRAINING INFO

Training as a Rhythmical Massage Therapist involves not only mastering the techniques of the massage itself, but also developing an understanding of the human being in health and illness, both from a conventional and anthroposophical perspective. You will learn a subtle rhythmical quality of touch which works with levity rather than gravity to strengthen and enliven the life-supporting processes in the human body.

Teaching and learning take place through a combination of lectures and hands-on practice, mixed artistic media exercises, discussion groups, tutorials, regular between-module medical assignments, year-long independent projects, case studies and special seminars. Through these methods, students can develop a thorough, in-depth, and holistic approach to the theory and practice of Rhythmical Massage Therapy.

The first year’s theme is the healthy human being both from a conventional and an anthroposophical point of view. After that, the focus will be on the dynamics of health and illness in its varying manifestations. During the two years, you will learn the basic forms of Rhythmical Massage Therapy and then deepen these massage movement skills qualitatively by learning how to transform the archetypal forms to suit specific illnesses.

    Full-time 3 years or Part-time 4 years

Transpersonal Art Counsellor, City and Guilds: Level 7 (MCGI)

The Tobias Transpersonal Arts in Therapy training responds to a growing need for a holistic approach to the concepts and practices of arts in therapy. The course is grounded in Transpersonal Arts practice, that is rooted in image and metaphor that provides a sound and coherent foundation for therapeutic practice. The programme focuses on deepening the student’s proficiency in engaging through art and the human encounter for wellbeing, personal growth, and social change. Counselling is developed as an art, the conscious art of transformative meeting.

Our training offers distinctive curricula that unites a broad range of artistic, theoretical and experiential approaches into a whole journey. We believe art works through the human being’s senses to free and harmonise the dynamics of body, soul and spirit.

The shared orientation of the programme at Tobias is the developmental philosophy founded by Rudolf Steiner, known as Anthroposophy. Anthroposophy is a modern spiritual path that respects the freedom of each individual, through a holistic understanding of body, soul and spirit.

Students are invited to explore this approach in order to come to their own judgements about its validity and relevance. This is taught within a critical context including Psychodynamic and Humanistic theory and practice.

The student will be taught how to build and maintain relationships and how to contact and communicate with people within professional boundaries. The students will be able to initiate, maintain and conclude a working relationship. the student is taught compliance with current government legislation and professional association regulations.
